The following instructions explain how you can register for multi-factor authentication (MFA) using various methods. Please select the section that applies to you to obtain the appropriate step-by-step instructions.
If this is the first MFA method you are setting up, the setup wizard for Windows Hello for Business will appear the next working day when you log in for the first time. Please follow the instructions and set up the desired method (fingerprint, facial recognition). A PIN must always be set up. If you would like to set it up at a later time, skip the setup wizard. These instructions show you how to log in using multi-factor authentication (MFA) with SMS confirmation.

Step 1: Start registration
When you log in to a University of Passau service (e.g., Outlook, Moodle, or Teams), first enter your university email address and click “Continue.”

Step 2: Enter your password
In the next step, enter your password and click “Log in” to continue.

Step 3: Select SMS verification
Since your account is protected by multi-factor authentication, you will now be asked to confirm your identity. To do so, select the “SMS” option to receive a confirmation code.

Step 4: Retrieve SMS code
Shortly thereafter, you will receive an SMS from Microsoft with a six-digit verification code, e.g., 971546. Open the message and have the code ready.

Step 5: Enter the code and complete the registration
Enter the code in the field and click “Continue” to confirm your phone number.
