Novell Vibe
What functions does Vibe offer?
In Vibe you can set up Wikis, blogs, micro-blogs, milestones and photo albums. Other services and tasks that you can use with Vibe are a calendar and a comprehensive file administration feature with simple structures and a flat hierarchy. For easy use, you can individually adjust your work environment regarding language and time zone, for example.
Team workspaces
Another central aspect of Vibe is that teams can be compiled freely. Each team possesses its own workspace that you can individually adjust. Each professorship and each institution has a pre-set team area in Vibe.
Via the mobile website and the apps for iOS, Blackberry and Android, you can easily write short posts and read existing content. You can find all configured content with the search function. The content of the documents can be searched through completely with nearly all text and Office formats, e.g. PDF, OpenOffice/LibreOffice and MS Office.
Versioning
All content is versioned within Vibe. You can compare and download older versions at any time. You can track who has carried out the change, when it happened and what was changed, at any time.
For Microsoft Office, there is an AddIn, that allows you to process all Word, Excel, and Powerpoint documents together and resolve any conflicts that occur.
What does Vibe look like?
Who is Vibe suitable for?
The collaboration platform Vibe is very well suited to:
- Multi-professorship research projects
- Comprehensive research projects within a professorship
- Projects with externally-working employees
- Working together on documents
in particular.
Vibe is not suitable as:
- Merely data storage: you can do this via the drive of your institution.
- An address database: GroupWise offers a comprehensive address database.
- Merely a calendar: GroupWise offers a comprehensive address database.
- And for small projects: Vibe requires a certain amount of getting used to, which can be too time-consuming for small projects.
How do you access Vibe?
All employees can access Vibe. Students can apply via any employee for access via an informal e-mail or by calling ZIM Support (extension 1888). The prerequisite here is that the student is already transferred to GroupWise. You can log in with the short form of your ZIM ID. In exceptional circumstances and with a justification, access can be set up for people who are not members of the university.
Your User ID expires
Please note: Project data or workspaces which are located inside your personal area are also lost. Projects should therefore be administered in the team workspace of the professorship or the institute.
Data backups
- Daily backup of the previous 90 days
- A six month backup (on 1 April and 1 October respectively)
All files and content are saved on servers within the university.
Vibe is independent of other service providers
Vibe is independent of the already existing service providers. The data on the H and I drives are not available in drive. The calendar and tasks in GroupWise are separate from Vibe. It’s possible to integrate them in GroupWise Client and also in other I Cal-capable software.
