Accessibility in Your Studies
Studying with disabilities brings with it a number of challenges. The University of Passau endeavours to meet these challenges with you and provide you with the best possible support. Below you will find support options and helpful information for navigating everyday student life with various impairments, as well as information on accommodating disadvantages.
Studying with Hearing Impairment
There are induction loops in some lecture theatres at the University of Passau, lecture theatres 9 and 10 in the Audimax and lecture theatres 5, 7 and 8 in the Economics building. People with hearing aids can connect directly to them and thus achieve significantly improved hearing quality.
For further information, please contact the University's Disability Officer.
Studying with Visual Impairment
The University Library offers a reader in the scan box of the Central Library. Before using it for the first time, you will need to be instructed on how to use it. Please report to the check-out desk on the ground floor of the library.
You can find more information under "Accessibility and Healthy Working in the Reading Rooms".
Barrier-free access to the various buildings can be found on the barrier-free site plan under "Studying with Walking Impairments" on this website.
Studying with Walking Impairment
The barrier-free site plan shows which route can be used to reach the various buildings on the campus with a walking impairment.

Exam Access Arrangements
Exam access arrangements are not an opportunity to gain advantages over fellow students, but rather to compensate for disadvantages caused by a disability or chronic or mental illness, i.e. to enable the students concerned to complete their studies and examinations under conditions that are as equal as possible.
As exam access arrangements must always be matched to the individual needs of a person, there can be no generally applicable information on specific examination modifications for certain disabilities or chronic illnesses. Instructors, the Disability Officer and the Examinations Office will work together to find the best possible solution for each individual.
Exam access arrangements granted during the degree programme are not shown on a Bachelor's or Master's certificate!
Detailed information on compensation for disadvantages can be found on the website of the Examinations Office.
Extensions or Leave of Absence due to Illness
You can apply for an extension of deadlines or an extension of the maximum duration of study if you are unable to take as many exams as required by the examination regulations due to disability or illness.
However, it is also possible that you are only ill on a single exam date. In this case, please immediately submit an application to the Examinations Office for illness-related incapacity to take examinations. If you are ill for a longer period in the current semester and are therefore unable to take any examinations, you should in most cases apply for a semester of sick leave. Please do not hesitate to seek advice, especially if you are receiving BAföG.
You can find more information on deadline extensions and leave of absence due to illness on the Disability Counselling Service website.
Financial Support
You have the opportunity to receive financial support for your studies, for example for disability-related additional costs or stays abroad. It is also possible for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses to receive special scholarships.
You can find detailed information on the individual financial support options on the Disability Advice Centre website. If you have any questions about financing, please contact the „Beratung Studentisches Leben“ of the Studierendenwerk for advice.
Accessible Campus Map
On the interactive accessible campus map you will find a wheelchair-accessible route across the campus as well as information on the locations of wheelchair ramps, lifts, accessible toilets and disabled parking spaces. You can also download the barrier-free map as a PDF document.
